After a lovely evening spending time on the back porch with grammie Carol eating fresh asparagus from her garden, grilled corn and chicken, maybe a Margarita or two, we woke up this morning to a beautiful amount of sunshine.
Today was going to be a day off the bikes and a day seeing the sights here and there.
Our first stop this morning was a place of such amazing beauty and all about memories. when Nick was a young kid he and his mom came to visit Carol at her hom
e up on the hill; in 2000 lightening took her home and a few others away from them. As we walked what used to be the driveway towards what is now left from the fire, you could hear quivers in her voice as she shared her memories of what once was there. Even though I had never been a part of the past, I felt as though I too was once there through the memories shared.
To see the strength that has become her even through a devastating situation was something I could only try to grasp onto. What wad really enjoyable for me was to watch our son be a part of this experience just as his daddy once was...
After spending some time taking pictures, remembering what was once there, and trying to think we could move an old burned tree that had slightly fallen from between two large rocks, we headed back through the woods to the car to continue sight seeing.
Today was truly a relaxing and enjoyable day-the kind of day you want to last longer but know it won't as tomorrow will soon be here. Tomorrow as we know meant back on the bikes and saying goodbye to Carol...
Yes we are looking forward to our continuing journey as a family making our own memories. We will be up in the morning leaving Omak going over Wauconda pass (climbing 4310 feet) to spend the night at camp ground Sweet Creek!
Love you...Mom and Rodger
